Being built

Methmailprivate email

Everything we will keep about you will fit on one short list.

Methmail is private email, being built. We will publish the list before launch.

What your keys will encrypt

We will not keep a record of who writes to whom: senders and recipients will be stored encrypted along with the message.

What will remain in delivery logs

Your keys will also encrypt message text, attachments and subject lines. Our server will see mail from other providers as it arrives, then encrypt it right away.

What Methmail won't be able to do

Familiar email, just without ads

Webmail in the browser, on your phone too: several addresses and search right on your device. Methmail will have no ads.

We won't analyze the content of your email for ads or for AI training.

What spam and threat filters will still check

How to get in

An early version is running now, by personal invitation. Next comes a closed beta, and it will be free.

You won't need a phone number to sign up. Sometimes your browser will solve a small puzzle: this is how we stop bots without tracking you.

Questions

Will it be free?

Yes: Methmail will have a free plan, Start: one mailbox, by invitation. That’s why the closed beta will be free too. There will also be two paid plans; prices are preliminary for now.

When is the launch?

When it is ready. We don't give dates: follow the “What exists today” page and the RSS feed.

Will you store my IP address?

Not by default: neither in logs nor in databases.

A court will be able to order us to start recording the IP addresses of a specific account.

Fields and retention of each log

Why “private” and not “anonymous”?

Because promising anonymity in email wouldn't be honest: email can't deliver a message without addresses. Instead, we'll list what we'll keep and see: that's the inventory.

What actually gives a person away in email

Who makes Methmail?

Methmail is operated by METHMINE LLC, a company registered in Wyoming, USA. We don't give the names of people. Courts and authorities in the USA, where the company is registered, in the countries where our servers are, and in the countries where our team members live, can compel us.

About us

Why trust you if you're not a company?

Not just on our word. Everything we will keep about you will fit on one short list. We will publish it before launch. Every six months we will publish a transparency report: how many requests we received from authorities, how many we complied with, and what we handed over. You'll be able to export your emails in standard formats (EML/MBOX) and your keys in OpenPGP format. We will open the source code of the Methmail web app before the closed beta, and the server code stays closed for now.

What the open code will and won't let you check

Will there be apps for phones and computers?

Later, with no dates yet. At launch, Methmail will work in the browser, including on your phone.
